January 05 CFCS Meeting.
Wireless
Networking
If you had any interest in wireless LAN and the systems
that are used to make them up, as well as security within those systems, Sunday’s
talk by Mr. Raymond Lopez was the place to be!
In his highly informative talk,
Mr. Lopez illustrated many specific brands of wireless routers and discussed
how they worked and how to set them up. Particularly interesting were his illustrations
of set up and why and how the routers provided certain types of firewall protection
for the entire LAN. As he pointed out the various methods for setting up the
router and the use of ports, IPs and security methods it became clear that while
most routers are plug and play in the simplest mode, they should be carefully
set up to provide appropriate use and the maximum security for the home LAN.
Clearly Mr. Lopez is a real expert in the wireless field and his presentation
was all we expected and more.

Raymond Lopez is the President of RSL
Computing, Inc. and an Executive IT Consultant. His experience includes active
engagement in the administration andmanagement of technology assets for the past
10 years, including 8 years with U. S. Department of Defense as the Information
Security/Project Manager for Central and Eastern Florida.
