CFCS at FACUG Spring Conference.
A number of The Society's members attended the Florida Association
of Computer User Groups (FACUG) convention this last week end and found it to
be highly informative and entertaining too. Among the members attending was our
President, Ed Mitchell , Treasurer Mike Bailey and Board members Ken Larrabee
and Gene Lease . Also, Quirt Alrich, Earl Brown, Hewie Poplock and Cheryl Wilson
were there.
The convention was outstanding in a lot of ways, but special congratulations
go to Cheryl Wilson our webmaster, for winning the Web Site competition with
the Society's web site and to Gene Lease for runner up in the News letter competition!
It's really great to see them get some reward for their untiring efforts on
our behalf other than our sincerest appreciation!
The Society didn't do too bad
in the drawings either with President Ed Mitchell winning Office 2003 at the
Microsoft drawing and Hewie Poplock winning a motherboard and P4 processor from
the Intel drawing.
Hewie also worked as a part of the operating staff for the
convention and Ken Larrabee held a Roundtable session for Digital Video enthusiasts.
Some major sponsors were at the convention and provided talk sessions and
sponsored some really well catered meals. Representatives from Microsoft, Intel,
Smart Computing Magazine, Comcast, Adobe Systems, JASC Software as well as other
vendors attended and either held sessions or were available to answer questions.
In each session there were some demos and displays of some really great software
and computing systems to come as well as some of the more "difficult" questions
answered in terms of operating software. Once again the vendors and their spokespersons
proved that they knew their stuff!
The technical and non-technical sessions were well organized and presented
by knowledgeable people who were dedicated to providing the kind of information
needed by attendees. Subjects ranged from relatively technical to broad operating
areas of establishing and operating a PC user group. All in all it was very well
done, worth the time spent and informative! We will hope to see you there next
year.
