November CFCS Meeting.
Solgames USA Home Networking and Gaming in OrlandoSolgames USA Home Networking and Gaming in Orlando

If you weren’t at the November meeting, you missed a chance to hear a really fine presentation by Joseph Boy of Solgames USA.  According to Joseph’s opening statement, he “isn’t much of a motivational speaker”, but in performance he had us caught up in what he is doing as a business and as a community service.

Many of us in The Society are far from being “gamers” as far as PC usage is concerned, but Joseph’s use of games for young people is a wonderful hook to get them to learn to use and understand computers.

As parents, grandparents and in some cases, great grandparents, we are interested both in the youth of our community and of course the use of computers. By placing games in a competitive area and assuring that all gamers that play can not use drugs, alcohol and promise to clean up after themselves while providing registration and ID elements, Solgames puts the system in proper order and control.

Wherever games are set up, and that ranges widely from Joseph’s house to large motels, gamers have to swipe their ID cards in order to play and compete. Each competition is properly supervised and involves PCs not Xboxes and other game packs.

Joseph’s explanations were clear and detailed about how the competitions are arranged and networks set up. At that point, after involving Society members in a short networked game competition, he explained the basics for networks, and network setup.

Clearly he was very knowledgeable on the types of networks and the software involved. He fielded questions from the membership concerning Windows, 98, ME, 2000, XP and XP Pro networking and did so in a manner that everyone understood the answers.

His close out Q&A session was really outstanding and solved a few problems that members were having with their networking systems. I’m sure that many of us went home and contacted the younger members of our family to let them know of Solgames and all that they are involved in.

A really outstanding presentation and our sincerest thanks to Joseph Boy!
